Tonya Abari

Tonya is a former teacher turned multi-genre writer and book reviewer. Her words can be found in Good Housekeeping, Publishers Weekly, Romper, USA Today, The Rumpus, The Writer’s Magazine, AARP’s Sisters Letter, ZORA, and many more! Abari is a 2020 Hurston Wright Foundation Writers Week alum in creative nonfiction in addition to a 2020 SCBWI New Voices in Nonfiction scholarship awardee and author recipient of the first annual SCBWI Mid-South’s Equity and Inclusion Critique Series scholarship. She is also a 2021 We Need Diverse Books mentee. Currently, she is hard at work on several picture books, a chapter book series, MG nonfiction projects, and essays. When she’s not writing, Tonya can be found listening to 90s R&B or frolicking around town with her daughter and spouse, both whose names also begin with “T.”
